How are we compensated?
We are a Fee-Only financial services firm, so our advisors are only compensated by the fee our clients pay. We do not receive commissions on anything we recommend, including investments and insurance. By eliminating the conflict of interest caused by third party compensation, a common practice in the wealth management industry still today, our advisors have the liberty of focusing on the holistic planning that is in the best interest of our clients. Our clients have the peace of mind in knowing that our entire team is on the same side of the table. We are incentivized to grow our client’s assets through strategic planning and proper tax planning, which means our clients can keep more of their hard-earned assets in their investment accounts.
Do you have a minimum account size?
We typically don’t have an account minimum. We have avoided minimums because we have been successful in helping clients who are high earners but currently have lower liquidity due to privately owned businesses, investments, or restricted stocks, as in the case of corporate executives. As such, depending on the advisor you work with, there is typically a minimum fee of between $5,000 to $10,000 annually but no requirement that a certain amount of assets is invested directly with our firm. For asset-based charges, the fee typically is between 1 and 2%.
Where are my assets held?
Most of our client accounts are maintained at TD Ameritrade. TD Ameritrade is a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) which protects securities customers of its members up to $500,000 (including $250,000 for claims for cash). You can learn more about SIPC coverage at SIPC.org. We also have the ability to provide guidance on assets held away.
How often do we meet?
There is no limit to the number of meetings you can have with our firm. We believe financial planning is a dynamic process. There will be years when tax law changes, job changes, the purchase or sale of a home, or any other life-changing event may require more one-on-one time. We want to be available when you need us.
Can I view my accounts online?
Surevest stays on the cutting edge of technology. Outside of daily access to your account at TD Ameritrade, we provide you with a personal online portal. “Surevest Wealth View” is a secure login that consolidates all your internal and external investments and liabilities into one secure location. Our advisors also utilize the latest planning software that takes your personal financial plan and ties in your account balances to keep your plan up to date. This real-time coordination allows your advisors to provide you with ongoing financial advice in real-time.
