As I help onboard new clients one question that always comes up as I take them through their client portal (The Nest) is “What is The Vault?”
The Vault is one of the most user-friendly items The Nest has to offer. Clients find this very useful as far as keeping all their personal, business and Surevest related documents in one place. Yes, you can even upload your passport, driver’s license and social security card.
You can create as many new folders as you need and title them as you see fit. There is even a search bar at the top right in case your looking for a folder that you can’t seem to locate.
And if you want to go a step further, you can create folders within a folder, for example:
Your tax folder can hold “sub” folders broken out into 1099’s, Gain Loss Reports and Billing Statements.
One important feature that The Vault allows is for clients to “share” certain or all documents with another individual. This third-party individual doesn’t have to be associated directly with Surevest either. They can be your CPA, spouse, children and any other trusted contact you have.
However, the interested third party only has the option to view what’s in the folder you give them access to. They are not allowed to edit documents or upload/delete what’s in the folder. The third party is always assigned their own username and password.
Personally, I don’t think I would have room for a filing cabinet at home. They’re bulky, hard to keep organized and papers always seem to still go missing! Ever since I started using The Vault, I know where to find every statement, receipt and tax document without having to fish around for it – it’s truly a time saver. Even if you think you’re not at all tech savvy, you’d be surprised how easy it is to navigate. I strongly recommend it.
